Nine Year Old Elise is Limerick’s Most Promising Photographer Posted on May 7th, 2009
Nine year old Elise Griffin from Galvone National School in Limerick city has been awarded the title of Most Promising Photographer at the 2009 Limerick I Love children’s photographic exhibition.
Elise, along with 15 other Limerick schoolchildren will be presented with their prizes, tomorrow, Friday, May 8th by the Mayor of Limerick, Cllr John Gilligan.
The children’s pictures were judged by award winning photographers Owen South, Limerick Leader and Liam Burke, Press 22.
Elise has won a digital camera for herself and a trip to Bunratty Folk Park for her class for her picture “Ready for Action” an image of three smiling young hurlers.
Roman Petuov, 11, from Scoil Mhathair De also won a digital camera for “Limerick Lights Me Up” as did 12 year old Dearbhla Walsh from St Brigid’s National School for her picture “Waiting for Mate on Shannon”
Limerick City East Educate Together School based in Rosbrien will be presented with a computer for being the winning school with the greatest participation.
More than 400 pictures were submitted from local primary schools for the unique exhibition which displayed images of Limerick as seen through the eyes of its youngest citizens in the city centre.
Children were invited to take pictures of whatever they love about Limerick, their families, their home, their friends, their pets, where they live, their favourite places, play-time, sport etc.
All participants received a full colour certificate for taking part and Brown Thomas came on board offering every child a discount voucher in BT Kids for their parents.
The children’s images were used to brighten up the city centre and exhibited in the heart of Limerick using the new retail unit in Bedford Row (the old Central Cinema).
All the images are now available to view in the windows of the Thomas Street centre on the corner of Thomas Street and Catherine Street.
The exhibition was run by the Limerick Communications Office which promotes a positive image of the city and supported by Shannon Development, The Limerick Leader, Carambola Kidz and Limerick photographic exhibition company Relive the Memory.
