| October 13, 2010 | to | October 16, 2010 |
2010 sees CUISLE Limerick City International Poetry Festival celebrating its fifteenth season. Taking place from October 13th – 16th, this is a must-go for your social diary, with evening readings by international, national and local poets.
The festival also includes a schools’ programme and lunchtime readings at the Hunt Museum followed by a convivial ‘Poets’ Convention’ where you can join the poets for a chat and a cup of coffee each day.
In keeping with its goal to establish Limerick City as a centre of excellence for poetry locally, nationally, and internationally, this year Cuisle hosts some of the most important and influential figures from the world of contemporary poetry, with the participation of fifteen poets from four countries.
The extensive programme includes readings by the popular Rita Ann Higgins and Mary O’Malley from Galway; RTE’s Vincent Woods; Limerick’s Catherine Phil McCarthy, Kerry Hardie born in Singapore and grew up in County Down; American born Belfast resident Chris Agee, editor of Irish Pages; American award-winner Allan Peterson from Gulf Breeze, Florida; Poet-Surgeon Veronika Dintinjana and Poet-Songwriter Jani Kovacic from Slovenia; younger poets James Brookes and Sarah Jackson from the UK; and Limerick’s Patricia Byrne and Ed O’Dywer. Irish language poetry will be presented by the eminent Máire Áine Nic Gearailt.
There will be lunchtime readings followed by discussions at the Poets Convention each day at the Hunt Museum, socializing in the festival club each evening in Bentley’s Piano Bar, book launches and evening readings in the lovely surroundings of Daghdha in John’s Square, and on Saturday night, the much-loved CUISLE Grand Poetry Slam at The White House Pub.
This years’ festival will be launched by Abbot Mark Patrick Hederman of Glenstal Abbey at Daghdha in John’s Square at 7pm on Wednesday 13th October.
