Four Limerick City Projects in the Running for a 2011 Pride of Place Award Posted on October 28th, 2011
Four Limerick city projects from the community and voluntary sector are in the running to win a prestigious Pride of Place Award 2011 in the Co-operation Ireland Pride of Place Cities Competition.
The winners will be announced at the Pride of Place Gala Awards Night in Gorey, Co Wexford on Saturday, November 5th 2011.
The contributions of the groups to local society and to the creation of civic pride will be celebrated with style in an ‘Oscars style’ ceremony and representatives from the four nominated groups along with Mayor of Limerick, Cllr Jim Long and Pat Dowling, Director of Service with Limerick City Council will be attending.
Limerick City Council has nominated Southill Family Resource Centre, the Moyross Residents Forum, The Get BACk Challenge and Limerick Civic Trust for awards in the Pride of Place Cities Competition.
Mayor of Limerick, Cllr. Jim Long, met with the groups, in his office at City Hall today, Friday 28th October, to wish them the best of luck at the Pride of Place Awards Night next Saturday, 5th November.
“These are four unique and very worthwhile projects which are a credit to their communities and the City”, Mayor Long said. “Limerick City has a great record in the Pride of Place Awards. Last year, St Mary’s Parish and the Learning Hub, Killeely both received runner-up prizes. In 2009, St Mary’s AID in King’s Island was a category winner, while St. Munchin’s Community Enterprise Centre also received a runner-up award for the second year running. I am confident therefore that the City’s entries will also do very well this year and I wish them all the very best of luck in Gorey.”
Pride of Place recognises the selfless work being carried out in communities all over Ireland. There are separate competitions for city and county based community and voluntary groups. Entry to the competition is through nomination by the relevant local authority.
Pride of Place is an initiative of the local authority all-Ireland Steering Forum. The forum is hosted by Co-operation Ireland, a charity which has been involved in promoting peace-building activities North and South for the last 30 years.
Judging of Limerick City’s entries to the Pride of Place competition took take place on Thursday and Friday, July 7th and 8th.
