Limerick GAA is putting the finishing touches on preparations for hundreds of visiting footballers as they get ready to host the Pan European Football Finals on November 4th & 5th. The event organised by the European County Board will see 26 Mens & Ladies Gaelic Football teams from all parts of Europe travel to Limerick for the culmination of their season and is an integral part of Limerick’s European City of Sport Celebrations.
Over 350 players will take part with travelling friends & family meaning upwards of 500 people are expected to spend two nights in Limerick as part of the event. This Hallowe’en, the Limerick art collective Gothicise have teamed up with the Limerick City Council to present ‘A Haunting’ – a day and night-long celebration of the Victorian past of the People’s Park for all ages on Saturday the 29th of October.
The free events will start with a Children’s Treasure Hunt from 1pm to 3pm with lots of treats. Everyone is invited to wear fancy dress for a Hallowe’en parade at 2pm. There will be a special prize for the best Victorian themed costume based on the history of promenades in the park to show off new clothes in Victorian times! There will be Victorian music and a range of fun family activities inlcuding face painting.

These Awards are the Alumni Association’s highest honour and are awarded to recognise outstanding achievements of individual UL alumni.

Limerick traders and participating city centre car parks have joined forces to offer a new service to provide free parking to Limerick shoppers.
Freepark Carparks Limerick is a trial initiative which aims to bring more shoppers into Limerick city centre. The scheme, which began on Monday, October 03rd, is being rolled out initially on a pilot basis with the aim of operating on a long term basis if successful.
When customers spent a set amount in participating shops, hotels, restaurants and businesses, they will be rewarded with parking vouchers, based on a minimum spend in that outlet.
The customers can redeem the voucher against their parking charge, offsetting the cost of city centre shopping. Depending on the amount spent, shoppers may park in the 11 participating city centre car parks for free!

Thousands of Limerick women ran for good causes in the late Autumn sunshine yesterday as part of the 2011 Limerick Women’s Mini-Marathon.
The winners have been announced as

2. Annette Kealy, Raheny Shamrocks, Dublin (28.23)
3. Orla Drumm, Dooneen AC, Limerick (28.55)
The annual event, organised by Limerick Athletic Club was sponsored by the Limerick Leader, Limerick’s Live 95FM and the VHI and run in association with Limerick County Council and Shannon Development. The 8 kilometre event has been hosted in Limerick since 1998.
The inaugural race saw 400 participants take part but it has grown exponentially now hosting several thousand participants who came from all over Ireland to take part.
