UL marks 40th Anniversary with €2,000 Scholarships for 40 Incoming Students Posted on January 5th, 2012

The University of Limerick is offering €2,000 entrance scholarships to 40 students to mark the occasion of its 40th Anniversary this year.  The 40 scholarships will be offered to students who will begin their undergraduate studies in the Autumn Semester for the Academic Year 2012/13.

Speaking about the UL40 Scholarships Professor Paul McCutcheon, Vice President Academic & Registrar of the University of Limerick said “These scholarships celebrate 40 years of academic endeavour in UL.  UL has grown expansively into an internationally renowned university and produced talented and high calibre graduates.  The UL40 scholarships are an ideal way to recognise UL’s academic achievements over the past 40 years since it first began by helping 40 entrant students to begin their academic lives.”

William Street Welcomes New Illuminated Features Posted on December 20th, 2011

More than twenty new illuminated cones have been installed on Limerick’s William Street providing a colourful addition to one of the city’s best known shopping streets.

The distinctive features are part of the completed William Street remodelling contract and are intended to provide a colourful addition contributing to the enhanced image of the street which has welcomed a number of new shops in recent weeks.

Constructed from high quality materials, the distinctive shape of the cones presents a contemporary feel that reinforces the pedestrian emphasis of the new streetscape.

Rotary Remembrance Tree Limerick Christmas 2011 Posted on December 8th, 2011

Limerick’s annual Christmas Remembrance Tree at the junction of Bedford Row and O Connell St was unveiled today, Thursday 8th December, 2011 at 11am.

With the kind permission of Limerick City Council, Limerick Thomond Rotary Club is providing a wonderful opportunity for citizens and visitors to the city over this festive season to remember their loved ones who are no longer with us at this special time.

The public have the opportunity to be involved in this project by writing the name of the person they wish to be remembered on a ribbon which will be put on the Remembrance Tree.

Boxing High Performance Unit on the Way for Limerick Posted on December 1st, 2011

The first Boxing High Performance Unit outside of Dublin is set to open in Limerick in early 2012.

Limerick Regeneration Agency is in advance talks with the Irish Amateur Boxing Association about establishing a 14,000 square foot High Performance Unit in the former Fulflex building in the Galvone Industrial Estate in Southill.

The facility would serve all young boxers in the Limerick and Munster area who currently have to travel to Dublin for high performance training.  Irish Amateur Boxing Association Director Dominic O’Rourke has already made several trips to Limerick to help progress the project.

Rugby League World Cup is coming to Limerick Posted on November 28th, 2011

Shannon Development and the Shannon Region Conference & Sports Bureau are delighted to announce that Limerick has been named as a host venue for the 2013 Rugby League World Cup.

After submitting a strong bid, Limerick beat off stiff competition from rival applications across Europe to stage matches in the 14-nation tournament in two years’ time. The RFL today confirmed that the Limerick bid has been accepted and that a World Cup game will be played at the iconic Thomond Park Stadium.

LCGA: “of de Blacam and Meagher” International Architecture Exhibition Posted on November 17th, 2011

Commissioned by the Irish Architecture Foundation, the exhibition that represented Ireland at the 12th International Architecture Exhibition 2010 in Venice, opens at the Limerick City Gallery of Art at 7pm on Thursday the 17th of November, and will run until 23rd December.

Ireland’s participation at Venice, and the exhibition’s return to Ireland for this national tour, is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council/AnChomhairle Ealaíon. This is the last venue in the national follow success in Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, Lewis Glucksman Gallery, Cork and City Gallery The Hugh Lane.
